Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt challenged me to write a poem like the poems that Lewis Carroll included in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I wrote a poem about the terror created by a skinwalker trying to ruin your day either from the trail or in your life.
Hush Little Hiker
Hush little hiker, don’t scream for help,
Grizzly’s not sure it’s good for your health.
And if you think you still must cry,
Grizzly’s gonna tear a chunk from your thigh.
And if that chunk won’t shut you up,
Grizzly’s gonna maul you into a lump.
And if you think you still can run,
Grizzly’s gonna chase you just for fun.
And when you think you got away,
Grizzly’s gonna find you again one day.
And from that chunk my skin will stir,
And Grizzly’s gonna be you in the mirror.
And with your face I will carnivore,
But it’ll be you they are hunting for.
And when your name is all but reviled,
Grizzly’s gonna to slip back to the wild.
