Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt challenged me to write a humorous rant. I wrote a poem about a conversation every IT company CEO wished they could have with their stubborn developers about getting their work done.
Get Your Work Done!
I put a Project Manager between you and me for a reason.
I don’t want you in my office.
I don’t want to talk to you at all!
I want you to get your work done!
So go do it!
I hired you because you are a professional.
This is why we only have one 30-minute meeting a day.
If you can’t figure it out by then, I can’t use you!
So go away and get your work done!
There are only four teams here:
People who find the work.
People who do the work.
People who fix all of your mistakes.
And People who make sure we get the check.
If you can’t fit into one of those groups, I can’t use you!
Find your work and get it done already!
I want results, not excuses.
If you send me excuses, then you are not sending me your work.
And if you are not sending me your work?
Then I’m going to have to call my associate, Vinny.
Vinny will come to your house and motivate you.
And Vinny likes baseball bats!
Your excuses are like pitches.
It only takes three swings to strikeout.
And Vinny doesn’t let people walk.
Think about that the next time you want to send me an excuse.
So get your work done!
Both Vinny and I are rooting for you!
