Todays’s NaPoWriMo prompt asks me to write about a particular fruit – your choice.
I wrote a poem about the Hawaiian Pineapple that is now an island knight serving and protecting his family, his home, and his Watermelon Chief.
Song of Kala
I am Kala Kahiki — Protector of the Seven Isles.
In the old ways, I am Aloha of Light.
I wield Leiomano — Club of Many Teeth.
Cleaver of all dark dwellers crawling out from the bog.
I wear Aumakua — Green Crown of War.
Seer of secrets and bitter of drowning souls.
My skin is Rind — Pine Bark Armor of the Sun.
Eternal rainfall has forged each binding into wooden rock.
Within my core beats Pele — Shoots of Courage.
Her fountain of molten sinew rumbles deep within me.
Through my blood flows Tahiti — Flashes in the Heavens.
Fiery juice and pulp fueling my fortitude.
My watchful sentry keeps the endless luau.
For I serve The Watermelon Boki — Chief Monarch of Royal Fruits.
In the new ways, I am Mahalo of Darkness.
For I am Kala Kahiki — Protector of the Seven Isles.
